2024-2025

September Annual General Meeting

In September, we held our annual general meeting which showcased what we do to our general members and highlighted our extensive projects with the Misericordia Community Hospital and new partnership with the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre. With approximately 50 attendees, this meeting allowed new and continued general members to get to know our 2024-25 executive team and learn all about our planned fundraisers and events for the upcoming school year.

Krispy Kreme Fundraiser 2024

In October, we held our third Krispy Kreme fundraiser where we sold a total of 300 boxes of donuts! Our pre-orders were very successful and we sold out quickly! With the help of our volunteers, we raised a total of $4732, which was key to funding our projects and initiatives later in the year.

Halloween Pumpkin Carving/Painting Contest

We also hosted a Pumpkin Carving/Painting Contest in October! To embody the Halloween spirit, we called upon our Instagram followers to exercise their creativity and send us their best carved or painted pumpkins. We received over 20 spooktacular submissions, and gave out prizes to the winners of multiple categories—overall, funniest, scariest, and people’s choice.

Fall 2024 + Winter 2025 Work Days

During Reading Week in our Fall and Winter semesters, we hosted 2 separate workdays. We invited our general members to help the team assemble ER Compassion Bags for Misericordia Hospital as well as welcome baskets and art kits for EGCCC. These work days are some of our largest volunteer events and where we use the money we raised to put together supplies that will bring a little warmth, gratitude, and a well-deserved smile to ER patients and long-term care residents.

Fall 2024 + Winter 2025 Supply Deliveries

In November and March, our group delivered the supplies assembled during our workdays to Misericordia Hospital and EGCCC. We provided Misericordia with ER Compassion Bags, toys, teddy bears, hygiene products, and cards. Additionally, we provided EGCCC with resident welcome baskets, art kits, sudoku/colouring books, teddy bears, hygiene products, and cards.

Tote Bag Painting and Games Night

In November, we hosted a huge social event (with around 50 attendees) for students to paint tote bags, play board games, and meet new people! We provided food and supplies while attendees brought their creativity to the Student Innovation Centre and painted designs such as flowers, animals, cartoon characters, and more!

Preventive Medicine and Population Health Seminar/Mixer 2025

In January, we held an informative seminar for University of Alberta students regarding the topic of Preventive Medicine and Population Health. We invited Dr. Rabia Ahmed (MD, FRCPC) to speak on STIs and HIV. Dr. Lynora Saxinger (MD, FRCPC, CTropMed) presented on COVID-19 while Dr. Dean Eurich (MSc, PhD) gave a talk about chronic disease management for diabetes along with Indigenous Health. We provided delicious food and refreshments. After our seminar portion, we had a mixer where attendees had the opportunity to chat with MD and MPH students about their program.

Candygrams 2025

In February, we held our annual Candygram Fundraiser! Our candygrams included a mini plushie, a handwritten note, chocolates or tea bags, and a rose. Our group raised a total of $1641 from this fundraiser and these funds went towards restocking supplies for Misericordia Hospital and EGCCC.

Window Painting 2025

Our Creations & Innovations team continued going to Misericordia Hospital and used their creative minds to paint beautiful art on their windows. VP Creations and VP External also started a new window painting partnership with St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital. In September, the Creations & Innovations team painted designs at Misericordia based on the theme “Fall/Snoopy the Great Pumpkin.” They painted winter designs in December, Valentine’s Day designs in February, and Spring designs in April.
